Chapter I: The Glasshouse Threshold

"The greenhouse did not die of frost; it died of silence. When the last caretaker barred the doors in autumn, the ferns adapted, learning to photosynthesize moonlight.

I walked the perimeter with a tin box of charcoal, tracing the condensation patterns on the north-facing panes. Outside, the world was rushing toward winter frost. Inside, time folded backward. The scent of damp loam and dormant roots remained as potent as a memory preserved in ink.

Every plant here is a manuscript written in chlorophyll. You only need the patience to translate their stillness."
